Sasha Zhitneva

Sasha Zhitneva’s extensive studies in glass and graphic design have brought a unique perspective to the creation of her spirited and vibrant panels. She uses no paint in her work; rather she repeatedly fires her work in her kiln, manipulating various pieces of colored glass, so that each panel is comprised of layers of embedded, brilliant articulated shapes and nuances of color. She seeks to create a painterly, almost water color look by means of staging her firings and working with the viscosity of individual colors, weight distribution of chunks of glass and temperature.

She draws her inspiration from a variety of sources including ancient manuscripts, nature, legends and tapestries.

In addition to her individual panels, Zhitneva has completed numerous stained glass and kilnformed glass architectural installations. Her most recent commission was for “Oasis of the Seas”, the world’s largest cruise ship, renowned not only for its size, but also for its extensive, world-class art collection.

Chappell Gallery is built on a strong foundation of education, the fuel that has driven the art glass movement to its current heights.
Glass art is a global movement; it is far-reaching and speaks many languages.

In addition to representing artists from the United States, Chappell Gallery's founder, Alice Chappell, has sought out artists from around the world.
