Lada Semecká is recognized as one of the major artists in the new generation of Czech artists. She began her study at the age of fifteen when she was selected to enter the Specialized School of Glassmaking, Kamenický Senov. Her education in glass art continued for the next fourteen years, culminating in six years at the Academy of Arts in Prague, where she studied under Vladimir Kopecký. She graduated from the Academy in 2,000 and has since been in 15 group exhibitions and four solo shows.
Interpretations of nature predominate in her work. While her minimal aesthetic is consistent throughout, her command of techniques and understanding of the medium allow her to express herself in a variety of glass modes. She fuses glass to create her expressionistic wall landscapes, casts glass for the wall still-life. Her pedestal pieces are cast, slumped and cut; her vessel is blown layered glass, which is then cut. In both her sculptural and functional work the influence of nature is present. In the landscape pieces horizontal layers on mass are configured to reflect the pull of gravitational forces. The bowls, inspired by the nymphs of antiquity, Naiads and Sirens, emphasize the fluidity and femininity of their movements.
